HCK9 make noise in their roaring new alt-pop single ‘MEDICINE’.
“I’m not your therapist,” frontman James Brown howls over a thrashing guitar and an abundance of pounding drums. HCK9 aka Half Cut K9 arrived on the scene 2 years ago, making clean-cut alt-rock with a distinctive edge. Needless to say, they’ve since soared in their genre and have linked comparisons to Twenty One Pilots and Jimmy Eat World; just a couple of James’ pivotal influences.
Throughout HCK9’s entire catalogue, their rose-tinted glasses are placed carefully to the side as the band pride themselves in “telling it as it is” in all their lyrics. And it’s working! Their lo-fi productions have pushed HCK9 into the mainstream, even securing sync slots on prime-time television.
“’(I’m not your) Medicine’ some might say is a little too metaphorical to say in an argument but the sentiment however, rings true. Whether it may be a parent, toxic ex or a friend who just can’t get the hint, 9/10 people will have gone through a situation where they are pushed past the human ability to shoulder the weight of someone’s crumbling life. If this hasn’t happened to you, I hate to say it but you may want to seek out a therapist.
Medicine is all about drawing a line in the sand between my need to save everyone and the people who can’t be or don’t want to be saved. It’s the battle against a hero complex sown into my very being and the inability to say what needs to be said. This is a goodbye letter to the self destructive people who refuse to take responsibility for their own life, and make it everyone else’s problem,” – James Brown of HCK9
HCK9’s gleaming future lies ahead, but for now, if you feel the urge to release some angst, we highly recommend including ‘MEDICINE’ in all your playlists.
